About Janelle

With roots in Hong Kong and a childhood shaped by New York City, I’ve always moved between cultures. After traveling to 93 countries across six continents, I returned to Asia more than a decade ago to reconnect with my heritage. What I rediscovered changed my perspective. China remains one of the most breathtaking and underestimated destinations in the world.

Janelle’s YouTube film on Lijiang’s Naxi culture inspired my entire photography trip. A Tokyo gallery owner (her past client) insisted I book through her. Janelle found me a guide who was a Naxi folk singer—he unlocked closed courtyards for golden-hour shots and taught me to shoot on film like the locals. The ‘off-menu’ barley wine tasting she arranged? Legendary.
